Threads of Joy Prayer Shawl Group
"You created every part of me, knitting me in my Mother’s womb. For such handiwork, I praise you. Awesome this great wonder!” -- Psalm 139: 13-14.
The St John Prayer Shawl Ministry began in April, 2008. Members knit or crochet shawls that are given to persons who are ill, have suffered a loss, or are in the midst of a life crisis. They are also made for celebrations: whether it be a birthday, anniversary, graduation, the celebration of a friendship or birth of a long awaited child. After each shawl is completed it is placed on the altar and dedicated in church. Prayer shawls are a tangible evidence of the love and prayers that have been expressed for the recipient.
Part of our journey of prayer and faith is to recognize that we may never know how our love and caring will touch or change the life of another person. We can learn to trust that God works through us when we care for friends and strangers alike. An old saying tells us that “Our hands are God’s hands.”
The group currently meets every month in homes on the 3rd Thursday to work on their shawls and pray for the recipients of their work. We invite new members to join us at any time. Anyone who would like to learn to knit or crochet is also welcome. Call: 270-886-3169.
