The Mission of the Discipleship Team
The Saint John United Methodist Church Mission Statement:
“Bringing people to Jesus Christ for membership, maturity, ministry and mission in the world in order to magnify God’s name.”
John Wesley on what a Methodist should do to live a Christian life:
“We cannot wait on God to grow us or our pastor to grow us as Christians. We must be actively involved in our own works of piety. Those works mean private and public prayer, partaking of the Lord’s Supper, public worship and reading and meditating on Scripture.”
This is what discipleship is all about, helping us “mature” as Methodists, helping us read and meditate on scripture. The Discipleship Team is made up of a group of people dedicated to furthering the aims of Sunday School and discipleship classes. Some classes we offer are studies of God’s Scripture, while others are likely to be spiritual growth topics [i.e. Christian Marriage, Men’s Spiritual Concerns etc.] and others are wide-ranging as bread making, computer literacy, estate planning and digital photography.
All Sunday School classes and discipleship classes are designed to get people together in God’s House.
It is the sincere hope of the Discipleship Team that what is offered leads to your maturity in your relationship with Jesus Christ.
